Among the hundreds of people influenced by Warner Bros shocking decision Cancel HBO Max Batgirl yesterday’s film (even as reported 90 percent of the way to completion), few are as central, of course, as star Leslie Grace. Singer-songwriter Grace – who had her breakout acting role in 2021 as one of the leads in Warner’s In the Heights— after all, a lot has passed months of her life at this point getting a fake beat up in spandex in Scotland for the film, which was scheduled to come out on HBO Max after its initial filming wrapped back in March 2022. So, viewers were quite curious about what she had to say about the parent company’s move to put the film on the shelf indefinitely.

Grace took the high road tonight though, posted a message on Instagram this afternoon which was entirely focused on the people she made Batgirl with, apart from the big lords who were not particularly grateful, they made the film for the following:

Friends! On the heels of the recent news about our film “Batgirl,” I am proud of the love, hard work and dedication that all of our incredible musicians and tireless crew put into this film over 7 months in Scotland. I feel blessed to work among such great people and create lifelong relationships in the process! To all Batgirl fans – Thank you for the love and faith, which allows me to take the Cape and be, as Babs said best, “my own damn hero!”

Grace accompanied her post with some photos and videos from the film’s production in Scotland, including videos of her sitting on camera while getting into costume, working with the film’s camera crew, and singing with her co-stars. It’s all very positive, and very light on the “fuck you, Warner Bros. Discovery president David Zaslav.” Grace’s job soon follows the film’s directors, Adil El Arbi and Billall Falla, they made their own statements on social media about the cancellation, describing themselves as “sad and I’m surprised by the news.”
