US actress Anne Heche has reportedly been taken to hospital in a critical condition following a collision which left her vehicle “caught in flames”.

The incident happened on Friday morning in the Mar Vista area in Co The Angelsnear the town of Heche.

The actor, 53, is a former partner of US talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, and is known for films including Donnie Brasco, Cedar Rapids and Psycho.

Pictures and video footage obtained by US media outlet TMZ showed Heche driving a blue Mini Cooper, which was later heavily damaged at the scene.

The vehicle struck a two-story home and burst into flames, according to the Los Angeles fire department (LAFD).

“Fifty-nine firefighters took 65 minutes to access, contain and completely extinguish the stubborn flames within the heavily damaged structure,” the LAFD report said.

“One female adult [was] was found inside the vehicle, taken by LAFD paramedics to an area hospital in critical condition.”

The LAFD also confirmed to the PA news agency that the vehicle drove 30 feet into the home but the occupant escaped unharmed.

The home was so badly damaged that it was rendered uninhabitable, LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

Heche’s ex-boyfriend Thomas Jane told The Daily Mail that Heche was “stable” and was “expected to pull through”, despite being intubated.

CNN a source close to Heche reported that she was lucky to be alive. The source said the actress had “severe burns and a long recovery ahead.”

First Heche crashed his Mini Clubman into a garage around 11am, then sped off. The Daily Mail published footage of doorbells ringing in what it said was Heche’s car speeding down a residential street before an explosion was heard.
